You Have Never Seen Zonker Strips This Good!
Read Time: 4 Minutes | Published: 13th January 2024 | Author: Fulling MillAs part of our new fly tying material release we added an extensive collection of rabbit zonker strips. With decades of experience producing flies commercially, we know what makes a great piece of zonker strip. We also know common pain points. So, we took all of that info to refine our production process to take them up several levels from what is currently available. What we came up with are nothing short of the best zonker strips on the market. For all you fly tyers out there, you’re going to want to give these a go.
We found an excellent source for our zonkers that have an even hide and full flowy hair. This is essential for even and consistent tying, as well as perfect action in the water. This makes them a great choice for stillwater patterns like snakes as well as jigged zonkers or spey flies because they have such excellent movement.
Our Dying Process
As with our other materials, we dove deep into our dying process to make sure all the colors came out reliably and the same each time. As tyers we want you to be able to buy a color now that will be the same in 6 months, and then in 6 years. Ultimately we selected 28 different colors for production. Some of them are standard, some of them are grizzly, and some of them are barred. You can see the full color list below. For reference, there is no price distinction between solid and barred strips.
Zonker Strip Sizes
Each color comes in four different cut options: micro, standard, big game and cross cut. In the image below you can see the micro, standard and big game side by side for a comparison. All of the cutting is exceptionally consistent, and leaves the hide in great shape throughout. As a note the cross cut strips are the same hide width as standard (3mm).
Packaging
Another huge component to our new rabbit zonkers is how we package them. To make sure they come to you in the best condition possible, they’re all packaged on a backing card and then put in a tall, re-sealable package. This keeps them straight and ensures that you can use every last bit of what comes in the package. They’re also extremely convenient for storage, making sure the strips stay in good shape after you open them.
