Fulling Mill Lotions and Potions Product Review

Published: 10th April 2017 | Author: Phil Ratcliffe

It’s early spring and the trout are now starting to look up, this time of year can see some of the best surface sport of the season and we need to be prepared. The business end of the dry fly set up needs just as much attention, this is why Fulling Mill have developed a number of products in their Lotions and Potions range.

Fulling Mill Lotions and Poitions

First up from the Lotions and Potions range is the Fulling Mill Dry Sauce, supplied in a handy dispenser with secure cap holding ½ Fl, Ounce / 14mls of clear gel that is applied to your fly.  The best way to use this and prevent the fly being saturated is to put a small amount on your index finger. Rub with your thumb to create a fine film then apply it to the feathers of the fly.  This will prevent any clogging.  As you would expect it is insoluble in water and it doesn’t create an oil slick when it hits the water.  It’s also temperature stable, so on those barmy summer days it won’t liquidise and leak when the lid is removed.

High Glide

Another of the Lotions and Potions range is the Fulling Mill High Glide. A 30 Grams / 1 Oz soluble powder floatant which consists of a desiccant that cleans, dries and waterproofs your dry fly by simply dropping it into the pot, closing the lid and shaking. The water soluble powder will absorb excess water and apply floatant to keep your fly floating better, higher and longer. This is particularly effective when using CDC and time is of the essence when the hatch is in full swing, it’s just a matter of blowing the excess powder off the fly and away you go.

I’ve used both products and each have performed well, keeping my dries in the surface and application is minimal, saving time and the fly floats for prolonged periods without having to re-apply each and every time.

Finally, the ultimate degreasing agent to help your tippet sink and prevent leader flash. Mixed in-house at Fulling Mill to a unique formula, the Fulling Mill “Fullers Mud” is a must-have product for any fresh water angler. I apply a small amount to the last section of my tippet material and it aids in preventing any spooky fish from turning away at the last minute on a well-presented fly.

Best of luck this spring and summer on the dry Fly.
