UK SALTWATER FLY FISHING CHAMPIONSHIPS 2016
16TH – 18TH SEPTEMBER 2016
David Profumo , a well-known lover of fly fishing who attended last year’s event and commented “I thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the festival – company, setting, sport and craic”
Saltwater Fly fishing is a rapidly growing sport and this festival gives a chance for fishermen to learn the techniques required, what saltwater flies to use, and the areas to fish, all from local saltwater fly fishing experts.
The festival starts on the Thursday evening with a drinks reception in St Mawes where entrants can meet with each other, our sponsors and our professional guides.
Friday is a day of clinics and master classes and Saturday and Sunday are set aside for the competition. Various Prizes will be awarded after lunch on Sunday to the competition winners, including the overall prize for the UK’s top Saltwater fly fisherman.
Throughout the weekend entrants can take the option of a 2 hour guided fishing trip with a local guide on his boat.
The event is organised by Nearwater Events, Tim and Amelia Whitaker, a husband and wife team based in St Mawes, ably supported by Derek Aunger (professional instructor and ex England International) and professional guides Colin MacLeod, Austen Goldsmith and David Wolsoncroft-Dodds.
The title sponsor is Kilchoman Distillery, a small Scottish Single Malt Whisky distiller based on a farm on the west coast of Islay. Their support has been vital in getting the event started and allowing us to expand the event this year.
The event website is www.saltwaterflyfishinguk.com, entry costs £65 per person.
