NEW Fly Tying Materials for 2025: Hooks, Foam Products and Dubbing

Published: 15th January 2025 | Author: Fulling Mill

This fall we launched a big addition to our fly tying range: brushes and fibers! For stillwater trout anglers, predator anglers, and saltwater anglers there are many great options for tying up some great flies at the vise. However, we didn’t stop there. We have another big addition to share with you: foam, dubbing and new hooks. There is a wide range of sizes, densities and colors of cylinders for everything for small ants to large stillwater booby patterns. We came up with an all-synthetic, peacock herl substitute in the form of our new Tactical Peacock Dubbing. And, we added new stealth coated popper hooks. If you want to see all of our new fly tying materials, they’re listed here.

Ant bodies

While called ant bodies, these are great for all form of terrestrial patterns. These hard foam cylinders are made of high density closed cell foam, which is less malleable but great for highly buoyant terrestrial type patterns like foam daddy long legs, hoppers and of course ants. Every product has a “hot spot” head that allows anglers to quickly sight the fly, so you don’t loose track in the drift. They’re pre-made for ease of use at the vise and come available in a wide range of sizes and colors to suit the bugs in your area. There are 12 Cylinders per pack.

Our new Foam Ant Bodies feature a sighter on top.

Foam Cylinders

These are available in a wide range of sizes and colors, and two densities. The main way they differ from the ant bodies is they DO NOT have a “hot spot” head. They’re only one color. The soft foam cylinders are made of open cell soft density foam and are great for hopper, beetle and ant patterns where you need to fold or manipulate the foam. The hard foam cylinders are made of high density closed cell foam, which is less malleable but great for highly buoyant terrestrial type patterns like foam daddy long legs and hoppers. Both are Available in a comprehensive range of sizes and buggy colours to suit your local terrestrials. There are 12 Cylinders per pack.

Booby Eyes

These are soft foam cylinders made of open cell soft density foam. They are the same as the soft foam cylinders, they’re just shorter so that if you cut the cylinder in half, each half is the perfect size for the booby eyes on one fly. They’re available in a comprehensive range of sizes and colours. There are 12 Cylinders per pack.

Foam Blocks

These are hard foam used for drilling, cutting & sanding. These are great for tyers who want to fully customize their own foam dry fly bodies and popper heads. They’re available in a wide range of colors. Some have a hot spot layer, whereas others are just one color.

Tactical Peacock Dubbing

This is a 100% synthetic dubbing designed to mimic the iridescent quality of natural peacock. It eliminates the need to find natural peacock that works for your tying needs, especially in cases where you’re looking for something that’s more durable. It can be twisted tight for nice slim bodies or left loose for a shaggier appearance. It’s for thoraxes and bodies on dries/emergers/nymphs and can be used in almost all cases where you’d use natural peacock. This dubbing is completely unique to Fulling Mill. It’s available in a range of colors with flash, non-flash and UV versions.

Salty Shrimp Dubbing

This saltwater style dubbing perfect for tying tropics patterns such as crabs and shrimps. It has a leggy appearance and partial translucency when wet. Additionally, the color range was specifically designed to match saltwater forage.

Popper Heads

These unpainted, foam popper heads are available in 5 different suitable for everything from size 12 panfish bugs to 2/0 saltwater poppers. If you’re a smallmouth angler, you’re going to want to check out our Boss Bug especially. It has that extra special pop that really seals the deal on picky fish. All poppers are currently available in white so you can paint them to any color pattern you want.

Above is a chart of our new foam popper heads and what FM hook they best correspond with.

FM 6080 Popper Hook

Our Popper hook is the ideal pattern to use when tying popper style flies for targeting warmwater fish like Largemouth, Smallmouth and Panfish. The kink in the shank prevents the popper head spinning on the hook shank and makes the finished fly much more durable. The hook has a non-reflective black finish and is barbed. It’s available in sizes 2-12.

The full range of hooks, with a ruler for size reference.

FM 6085 Salty Streamer Hook

Our Salty Streamer hook is perfect for tying saltwater poppers and larger saltwater streamers that need a longer hook shank. This hook is reliable for targeting predatory saltwater fish because it’s strong and durable. Additionally, the hook has a non-reflective black finish and is barbed. It’s available in size 1 and 2/0.
