New Bung Bugs for 2024 from Fulling Mill (outside US)

Read Time: 3 Minutes | Published: 3rd February 2024 | Author: Fulling Mill

If you follow stillwater fly fishing, then you probably heard all about Signature Tyer Howard Croston’s Drop Back Bung last year. If you didn’t, don’t worry we linked a tutorial on it below. When we launched the Drop Back Bung, Howard also included a series of patterns specifically designed and weighted to work under it. This year he’s added to that collection with five new bung bugs for you to fish in 2024.

Barbless Balanced Shammy

It’s no secret that fish eat worms and as anglers we can capitalize on that. This shammy worm pattern is critically weighted or balanced so it will work perfectly under a Drop Back Bung. These patterns offers a level profile to a taking fish and this can result in a much higher conversion rate on takes than a standard dressing.

Fire Spot Egg

Fish key in on eggs on small stillwaters in the winter and spring. As such, egg patterns fished under the bung can be one of the most deadly methods. These “fire spot” eggs combine the translucency of a natural egg with the added attraction power of a hot spot. The stillwater trout love them.

Bung Blob

While most know blobs for being fished on pulling tactics, blobs are not just for being fished with pulling tactics. They are also deadly when fished completely static underneath an indicator or bung.

Classic Buzzer

Simple and classic, these traditional style buzzers are perfect for naturally feeding fish on both small stillwaters and large reservoirs. While not the flashiest of flies, when the timing as right these are new bung bugs you simply cannot be without.

Bung Worm

This fly is ideal for use under the drop back bung, but it can also be pulled on a floating line and long leader. The extra quick sinking Tactical Drop Bead gives an exaggerated lift and drop movement which the fish find irresistible.
