Nugget Flash
Sadly the nature of my trips make it difficult, if not impossible, to achieve the necessary social distancing requirements. In Belgium, like many countreis all over the world the Coronavirus keeps us indoors, so for the last couple of weeks my motto has been to #keepontying. Not that I really needed any encouragement in the first place, but quarantine is the perfect opportunity to start cranking out any amount of decent flies! When you look at the new catalogue from FullingMill, you get a lot of ideas about new patterns you can buy and test out during the coming months or perhaps you can create your own ‘miracle fly’?

For me, one of them is the ‘Nugget Flash’ related to the Fulling Mill Humungus models. I’ve been tying them in different colours to last year when I focused on the Olive versions. Last year my team enjoyed wonderful results during a lot of the competitions where entrants are allowed to fish with weighted flies, on the continent (Belgium, Holland, France, Luxembourg) you are allowed to fish with all kinds of flies. You can fish these flies on any kind of fly line, stripping, rolly-polly, figure of eight but also static (on sight) on the bottom (the trout just pick them up!). This is a very lifelike lure that you can tie very lightly dressed or with a bit of bulk.

Think about it this way, when are you going to have this much free time again? Time, if you can escape the household chores, that you can spend behind the vice? So here’s something to try; the ‘Nugget Flash’ (easy to tie and in different sizes):

Hook: FM-1530 competition heavyweight 6 – 8 – 10
Bead eye: FM-tungsten orange 3,20 or 3,80 mm
Tail: the finest and most supple holographic flashabou flash (or another supple ‘flashy’ material with another name)
Body: long rabbit hair twisted like dubbing and then wrapped around the hook
Tight Lines….
