Top 10 New Streamers for 2025 from Fulling Mill USA

Published: 8th January 2025 | Author: Fulling Mill

New year, new streamers. In this week’s installment of our new flies series we’re going to cover some of our new streamers. These cover a wide range of sizes and styles. From large, articulated streamers like Matt Verlac’s Wedge Head to small jig streamers like Jack Arnot’s Simple Sculpin, they cover just about everything you could want. Whether on a euro nymphing setup, floating line or sinking line, there’s something for everyone.

Phillip’s Rainbow Yummy

From the mind of Signature Tyer Josh Phillips of Spawn Fly Fish, the Rainbow Yummy was originally designed as a pattern for targeting sea run cutthroat trout in the Puget Sound. However, as any trout angler can see, this thing will get eaten just about anywhere. Featuring a 4.6mm tungsten bead and light, synthetic materials this fly will sink quickly and jig with a pronounced action. Importantly, the added articulation of the hook on the shank adds a ton of enticing action to this pattern.

Daniel’s Jiggy Sculpin Snack

The original Sculpin Snack may well be one of Signature Tyer George Daniel’s best known flies. Then, as euro nymphing exploded in popularity, he developed a jig version. A real key to this pattern is the sparse yet crinkly, synthetic Streamer Straggle body material. It ensure that the sinks super fast, yet keeps a fishy profile. This pattern is a mix of browns, olives and tans which makes it an ideal sculpin imitation. This is George’s single most prolific fly.

Verlac’s Wedge-Head

From Signature Tyer Matt Verlac, the Wedge-Head is an articulated streamer that can be fished on rivers of all sizes. With dumbbell eyes and a super wide wedge head, the fly dips and dives around structure. It can be fished quickly off of bank-side structure, or dropped into deep pools. The contrast of its flat, wide head and glue-painted mallard back to its sideways schlappen tail make it dive and t-bone irregularly in a way that really triggers big trout. Plus, it pushes a lot of water so will attract the attention of fish even when they can’t see it.

Daniel’s Jiggy Cray Snack

Another excellent jig pattern from Signature Tyer George Daniel. This attractor crayfish fly was designed to target smallmouth bass in clear water during the summer months. By creeping it along the bottom with small, subtle jigging movements its for enticing bites from wary smallies. However, as with many great patterns this one has wide crossover and should be fished for trout as well. In any system with crayfish, they’ll eat this all day. We like the orange one when crayfish are molting and ore colored, and the olive one through the other months.

Arnot’s Simple Sculpin

From Signature Tyer Jack Arnot: “This, for me, is a workhorse streamer that has been used in just about every fishing scenario possible. With limited amounts of flash, it won’t turn off fish that see sparkly streamers day in and day out. My favorite way to fish this is on a euro setup, either vertically jigging or laterally fishing it back and across to me. It also has uses for anchoring nymph rigs in larger rivers or for combing flat transition water.” This is one of those flies that’s small, subtle and something that picky trout will eat without much inspection. While Jack is very successful euro nymphing this pattern, it works very well under an indicator or on a floating line with a long leader.

Cheech’s Mop Sculpin

At this point we all know how effective mop flies are. This version by Signature Tyer Cheech Pierce of Fly Fish Food has some added flair to make it even fishier. The palmered brahma hen collar ads some wonderful, darker mottled coloration. And, the Tactical Microflash belly gives the impression of a wounded sculpin. This pattern features a 4.6mm tungsten bead so it’ll get down fast.

Kutzer’s Crafty Swinger

From Signature Tyer Pete Kutzer of Orvis Fly Fishing: “Freestone, Tailwater, Lake run, or Ocean Run, this little swing minnow just works everywhere.” Pete is an expert swing angler, and has fished this pattern all over the world. The semi-translucent properties of the craft fur and flash on this pattern give it an extremely realistic look when wet, which is just like a real minnow.

Red Stripe Diver

This is a classic wedge-head style articulated streamer that’s designed for everything from big trout to bass. Due to it’s tightly packed deer hair head, it dips and dives with an incredible, erratic action. The body is constructed of our Salty Craft Fur and Super Pearl Chenille, which allows it to hold a great profile while not having much mass. This fly is best fished on an intermediate line at minimum, or a heavier sinking line to get the best action out of it. Available in a wide range of colors, there are options for a variety of water clarities and conditions.

Jorgensen’s Scuba Steve

From Signature Tyer Andrew Jorgensen, the Scuba Steve is a wool-head sculpin pattern. Because the weight is centrally located on this pattern, it has a wiggling motion unlike other streamers that are out there. It looks just like a real fish swimming. That, coupled with the wide profile the wool holds, makes it a super effective imitation for sculpin. It’s been one of Andrew’s best patterns in Idaho, and has performed extremely well across the country.

Rosenau’s Peach Bum

This is a pattern from Signature Tyer Pete Rosenau of Spawn Fly Fish. Originally designed to target sea run cutthroat trout and coho salmon in the puget sound, this pattern has earned its place as a trout streamer across the country. The peach coloration and light pink bead are unique and haven’t been seen much by trout. That, and the jigging motion from the articulated hook and tungsten bead make it dip and dive in an irresistible way.
