Top 10 New Nymph Patterns for 2024 from Fulling Mill USA
Read Time: 5 Minutes | Published: 19th January 2024 | Author: Fulling MillJust like that, 2024 is upon us. Maybe that means new years resolutions. Maybe that means exploring new water. Or, maybe that means exciting trips planned. For us, it definitely means the introduction of new flies! We spent the last year testing, talking to our designers and exploring new and effective flies that would bring you success on the water. We must say, we’re really proud of what we came up with. While there were far more than we could mention in one post, below we’ve outline our top 10 new nymph patterns. From designers new and old, there’s some seriously fishy new stuff coming to our collection.
Weiss’ Firefly: New Colors
Introduced last year in chartreuse, we now offer Signature Tyer Pat Weiss’ Firefly in orange and pink. Don’t let the subtle appearance of this fly fool you, though. It has a lot of pizzazz that’s not visible to the naked eye. Put one of these under a UV light and you’ll see exactly what we mean. A perdigon style nymph, Pat designed this fly for cloudy and overcast days especially.
Olsen’s Blowtorch
We’re thrilled to announce that Devin Olsen came on as a Signature Tyer for us this year. One of the many patterns he brought on board is his world famous Blowtorch. An attractor style nymph, it has a bright tag, flashback and Tactical Microflash dubbing—it packs a flashy punch. These catch fish all over the world, so you will want to make sure to have them in your box this season.
Olsen’s Quilldigon
Mayflies of all sizes can be found in just about every stream around the world. And, stripped peacock quills are one of the best materials available for imitating them. The hot spot butt on these is to make them stand out from naturals in the drift, while keeping them mostly natural at the same time. This is one of Devin’s most proven fish catchers around the world.
Boroff’s Glass Bead BWO
Some of the most prolific hatches you’ll run into are baetis hatches. As such, Signature Tyer Tyler Boroff spends a lot of time perfecting flies for them. This baetis is tied with a glass bead and a chewy body so it doesn’t sink fast and holds well in the middle of the column.
Boroff’s Two Timin’ Midge
Not all midge larva are just one color. To represent bugs that are multi-colored, Signature Tyer Tyler Boroff came up with this bi-colored midge larva imitation.
Higa’s Tactical SOS
Signature Tyer Spencer Higa’s SOS nymph is famous, and for good reason. It’s an exceptional mayfly and midge imitation, and catches fish all over the world. Whether fished euro style, under and indicator, or under a big foam dry this fly will flat out catch fish.
Elden’s Improved Hare’s Ear
Hare’s ear nymphs continue to be popular for a reason. Signature Tyer Elden Berrett came up with this variation, which features a split tail and some UV in the dubbing to add a twist to existing patterns. Something we’ve learned over the years is that sometimes it only takes a little tweak to make a huge difference with a popular pattern.
Yardley’s Low Hole
Fulling Mill USA President Nick Yardley basically only fishes this fly. That’s how much confidence he has in it! This is another hare’s ear concept, except it’s tied with squirrel to give it a spikier and buggier look. And, it has a drop bead for added weight options.
Twister Egg
We revamped our egg offerings this year, and one of the new additions is this Twister Egg. A multi-colored egg, these are tied with our new EZ Egg Chenille. These are tied in micro sizes for when fish are keyed in on small eggs or are put off by big patterns.
Red Neck Gasolina Perdigon
The Gasolina is a very popular nymph pattern. We’ve been tying it with a red tinsel collar, which has taken it to the next level. This is a must-have attractor nymph.
