USA: Top 5 New Terrestrials for 2023

Read Time: 3 Minutes | Published: 6th February 2023 | Author: Fulling Mill

Terrestrial season is one of our favorite times of year. Fishing small beetles and hoppers tight on the bank and under trees is some of the most fun you’ll have fishing. Not only can you catch some special fish, but the casting is about as fun as it gets. Accuracy pays dividends! We added some great new patterns from the likes of Tom Rosenbauer and Fly Fish Food. And, we also added some exciting things from our New Signature Tier Paul Procter as well. When it comes to fishing for big brown trout on dry flies, few people are more experienced than Paul. You do not want to miss his patterns. Follow along to check out our top 5 new terrestrials for 2023!

Procter Target All Purpose Terrestrial

This comes from the box of one of the worlds leading authorities on dry fly fishing. Paul Procter is an accomplished dry fly angler and prides himself on being able to trick some truly large fish on purpose built flies. This is one of them. Designed to imitate both ants & beetles, this pattern excels in it’s versatility for prospecting over big fish. While meant for tight quarters fishing under banks and heavy brush, it’s at home on any stream or river.

Procter Target Beetle

This is another staple terrestrial pattern from Paul Procter’s box. Now available for anglers everywhere. As a super buoyant foam backed beetle, this will float high and for a long time. It also is tied with a hi-viz wing for when you’re fishing in darker, wooded areas or overcast days.

Mini Flopper

Who doesn’t like tiny foam bugs? This new pattern from Cheech at Fly Fish Food is a top fish producer for summer days. This can represent either a beetle or hopper, and really anything in between. The fluorescent green post is great for visibility in dark conditions.

Tom Rosenbauer’s Rosenhopper

From Signature Tier Tom Rosenbauer comes this simple but highly effective foam pattern. This pattern excels for prospecting summertime streams as a single fly or with a nymph suspended below.

Grumpy Frumpy Royal

The Grumpy Frumpy is a pattern that will stand the test of time. It’s the result of many years of experimentation. It incorporates elements from some of the best attractor dries out there, and combines them into one deadly fly. It’s one of the most versatile and effective attractor patterns out there. We have this in several colors already, but this year we added the classic “royal.”
