Last year we were lucky enough to be able to spend a couple of days on the San Juan River with Signature Tyer Tyler Boroff. There, we covered fly design, fly tying and did a lot of trout fishing. If you haven’t yet heard of Tyler, it’s about time you did. Tyler is an exceptionally talented fly tyer, especially when it comes to small trout fly patterns. For him, the fly tying process starts with being in tune with the waters at hand, as well as the current weather, to anticipate the possible insect activity occurring that day. From there, he makes an educated decision using research and skills to adapt accordingly. Small, subtle differences in his fly designs are what make them unique and extremely productive. By sharing his patterns with the world he hopes to inspire future generations to follow their dreams and do more of what they love.
Below, two of Tyler’s trout patterns we’re excited to have added for 2025. You can see his full collection of signature patterns here.

If you didn’t check them out yet, we created some great videos on the water and at the vise with Tyler. First, below is a video where he talks about fly design. He tells the story behind several of his trout flies, and some of his fly pattern design principals. Then, we have several tying videos. Two cover midge fly patterns, where the other covers a baetis nymph. These are trout flies that any angler fishing with midge and baetis patterns should have in their fly box.
