The 10th Irish Fly Fair and International Angling Show 2019

A host of the greatest fly dressers fly casters and angling celebrities from all over the globe will once again gather at the Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill, to participate in the 10th Irish Fly Fair and International Angling Show. On the 9th and 10th of November, visitors will come from all over the world to this celebrated event. They will have the opportunity to see some of the finest fly dressers from around the world practice their art, while champion fly casters will be available to demonstrate and advise on fly casting techniques and fishing tactics.

Last year’s Irish Fly Fair saw some of the best fly casters and fly tyers in the world descend on The Galway Bay Hotel in Salthill. The show is a fantastic success with many of the fly dressers, demonstrators and visitors to the show returning again and again, the feedback is always exceptionally positive, with many saying it was the best game angling show they have ever been to in the world, we hope to build on this and have many new trade stands, international fly tyers and angling celebrities for this year, keeping the event fresh.”
The tackle trade will be very well represented at this year’s event with a huge range of quality trade stands, including, tackle, outdoor clothing, and fly-tying gear, book stands with 3 major book launces and many others, so something for everyone! The event team would like to welcome back angling celebrities, who will be demonstrating and advising on all aspects of fly fishing! We also would like to welcome our new guests. We also have tuition from qualified angling instructors APGAI- Ireland who will give free casting and fly-tying lessons during the two-day exhibition. Experts from around the world like Charles Jardine, Jim Curry and many others, plus Irish favourites, Tom Doc Sullivan, Dr Ken Whelan, and many more will be hosting talks and seminars on various angling related topics. Also, the ” Veniard Youth Fly Tying Competition” giving the young people a chance to show the “Pro Fly Dressers” what they can do. The Irish Fly Fair is hailed as one of the finest shows of its kind in Europe, a great weekend to meet up with old friends and make new ones! This show is a must for all angling enthusiasts. New Vintage Classic Fly Room 2019
For the first time anywhere – at the Irish Fly Fair this year we will have a room dedicated to the history of Classic and Historical Salmon Fly Tying, complete with theatrical twists and costume. Immerse yourselves in the world of George Mortimer Kelson, Price-Tannat, William Blacker and the other greats of Salmon Fly Tying history. On display will be unique original collections of fly-tying memorabilia and significant historical artifacts including the collection of George Mortimer Kelson’s personal fly-tying items, the travel kits of General Beresford of ‘Beresford’s Fancy’ fame, as well as items belonging to Price-Tannat and others. In residence will be some of our great international tiers focusing on patterns from the period, and generally getting into the ‘vintage’ spirit at Galway. Come along and talk with our tiers and learn not only how to tie these wonderful creations, but also trace their history back 200 years.

Book launches and signing sessions. There will be an abundance of new Fly-fishing books available at the Irish Fly Fair in Galway on 9/10th November. Paul Morgan of Coch-y-Bonddu Books will be hosting author signing sessions by Martin Lanigan-O’Keeffe and Barry Ord-Clarke, while the event will also see the launch of George Barron’s latest book “A Fine Line.”
Lanigan-O’Keeffe, compiler of the excellent “Farlows Salmon Flies,” has now turned his attention to Hardy Brothers, and has produced a beautiful and comprehensive book detailing over 1000 Hardy’s salmon fly patterns from 1883 to 1969. With twice the number of pages as the Farlows book, this one will test your baggage allowance to the limit!
Feather-bender Barry Ord-Clarke is a regular at the fair. He will be signing copies of his new book – “The Feather Bender’s Flytying Techniques.” As a bonus, if anyone buys a copy of Barry’s book on the day, their name will be entered into a free draw to win a small set of flies from the book that he will be tying at the fair.
George, Barry and Martin will be signing books throughout the weekend, and will be happy to answer your questions on the Coch-y-Bonddu Books stand, or even over a pint of Guinness in the bar afterwards!
